        After Hours Urgent Care Service

Kerang District Health currently has an unfunded public Urgent Care Centre for after hours emergencies and urgent care.   For patients who choose to visit a publically funded Emergency Department see details of the nearest centre below. Kerang hospital is serviced by local doctors on a rotating on-call roster.

When You Arrive

You will be assessed by a nurse specially trained in emergency care. He/She will record your details, including your medical history. People who require the most urgent care will be treated first. However, everyone will be treated as soon as possible.

If assessed as Category 1,2 or 3 the On-Call Doctor will be contacted. You may be treated by the nursing staff locally on the doctor’s advice.  You may require medication, stitches or other treatment. You may also require admission to hospital.  Please ask the nurse about any concerns regarding medications, or arrangements made for your care.

If you are assessed as category 4 or 5 the nurses will provide treatment, advice and support and an appointment may be made with your own doctor on Monday.

As the  Urgent Care Department is not publically funded you will receive an account from the treating doctor.

Rights & Responsibilities

  • You have the right to be treated with respect.
  • You have the right, except in the case of certain infectious diseases or psychiatric problems, to leave the hospital at any time. However, you do so at your own risk.
